Men's Skincare: A step by step routine for better skin

Men's skin is different from women's skin, so it has different needs. We are less likely to have wrinkles due to excessive oil production. However, with more oil comes acne and other issues. This is why it's important to have a skincare routine that you follow to ensure that your skin is well cared for and looks amazing for years to come.

Men especially need a moisturizer that is made for our skin type, which means that this moisturizer should be less greasy. You will also need a sunscreen that blocks UVB and UVA rays, which are responsible for aging the skin. This will protect your skin and prevent skin cancer. It should be at least an SPF of 30 or higher with broad protection. Some great products combine these two items - moisturizing and sun protection, saving you time and money.

Morning Routines for Men

Wash with soap and water in the morning and apply an oil-free moisturizer or sunscreen if you are going outside in the sun. You should use a moisturizer that includes sunscreen to keep your skin protected. This helps prevent wrinkles and other issues down the road.

Always use products that are made for your skin type. You can apply Vitamin C serum before the moisturizer for better wrinkle control. Vitamin C serum is safe to use morning and night.

Basic Nighttime Routine

After washing your face clean at night, patting it dry with a towel, apply an oil-free moisturizer. Just as in the morning, should you want to add another layer, Vitamin C is a good choice that can go under your moisturizer.

Other Skincare Routines

While the above are great general care, there are some steps that you can include for greater control over your skincare routine.

For example, If you have a beard, you will need to make time to care for it as well. This could be done morning or night. However, to groom the best-looking beard, doing your beard care in the morning is best. This will allow you to clean up the lines around your beard and gives you the maximum benefits of your beard care products. You can also wash your beard using beard wash in the shower and condition at night and apply beard oil when going out in the day.

However, if you prefer to clean your beard and apply oil at night, that oil can sit all night and soak in. Be sure that you apply away from your face, as beard oil shouldn’t be too long on your skin, as with any other oil, to prevent breakouts.

There are also facial masks and scrubs that can be used twice weekly. These masks are made for various skin types. Use a mask that fits your skin type and allow it work on your skin for at least 15 minutes. For an outbreak of acne or blackheads, a mask for acne would be useful, and follow that up with an oil free moisturizer for oily skin.
